Card Break Buyer Protection Checklist

Run this checklist before every break — especially with a new seller. Each step takes under a minute. Combined, they eliminate 90%+ of scam scenarios.

Before You Buy

☐ 1. Search the seller on BreakCheck Go to /search. Confirm the seller has a profile, recent reviews, and an acceptable Trust Score.

☐ 2. Verify their Trust Score is above 60 Below 50 warrants serious caution. Below 30, walk away.

☐ 3. Check for active scam alerts Search the seller in /scam-alerts. A verified alert means confirmed complaints from real buyers.

☐ 4. Look for BreakCheck Certified badge If they're certified, verify the cert ID at `/certified/[certId]` to confirm it's active and not expired.

☐ 5. Read recent 1-star and 2-star reviews Filtered to the last 60 days. Patterns of similar complaints are a red flag. Isolated incidents are less concerning.

During the Break

☐ 6. Screenshot the listing before joining Capture the break format description, team names, product advertised, and price. This is your evidence if anything goes wrong.

☐ 7. Never pay outside the platform Any request to pay via Venmo, CashApp, Zelle, gift cards, or crypto is an automatic disqualifier. You lose all buyer protection the second you go off-platform.

☐ 8. Note the expected shipping timeframe Ask or check the description. Most reputable sellers commit to 5–10 business days. Get this in writing via chat.

After the Break

☐ 9. Document if shipping is late If the seller's committed timeframe passes without tracking, message them inside the platform and save the conversation.

☐ 10. Leave an honest review Good or bad, your review protects other collectors. Verified-purchase reviews carry extra weight in the BreakCheck Trust Score system.

If Something Goes Wrong

  1. Open a dispute on the platform (within their time window — usually 14–30 days)
  2. File a scam alert on BreakCheck — moderated and publicly visible once verified
  3. Contact your card issuer for a chargeback if platform dispute fails
  4. Report to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov for significant losses
